Attack of University of Abuja: FCT Cannot Be Safe If… – Sani

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has stated that as long as the neighbouring States of Abuja are not safe, the Federal Capital Territory is not safe.

This was made known on Tuesday after bandits attacked the University of Abuja staff quarters abducting a Professor of Economics, Joseph Obansa and his two children among others at 1 am.

Sani wrote, “The location of the University of Abuja in the Federal Capital and its proximity to military formations has not protected its inhabitants from terrorists & kidnappers. As long as the neighbouring states of the FCT are not safe, Abuja can’t be safe.”

The school said in a statement on Facebook that the matter would be investigated as efforts have intensified towards rescuing the abductees. The attackers have not called in to demand a ransom, The Gazette learnt.

“Suspected bandits attacked the staff quarters  of the University in the early hours of today.

Our  Safety officers, in conjunction with security personnel,  mobilised to secure the quarters.

We have report that four of our staff and their  children were, nevertheless, abducted by the evil men.

Efforts are being made to ensure their safe return. A sad day for us, indeed!”

Meanwhile, Abuja and its environs had been coming under increased security threats from violent criminals.
