Workers’ Day: Obaseki Approves Payment of Pensioners
Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has approved a harmonized payment of pensioners from May 2022 in celebration of the Workers Day.
Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has approved a harmonized payment of pensioners from May 2022 in celebration of the Workers Day.

Governor Obaseki stated this while celebrating with workers on Monday morning disclosing that he was interested in the plight of the senior citizens who have not been paid their pensions by the previous administration.

“I am particularly interested in our senior citizens because they are one of the most vulnerable in the society. We are aware of the difficulties faced by the pensioners due to the non-payment of their pension and gratuities by previous administrations.
In view of the prevailing economic circumstances, I have now approved, effective this May, the agreement we reached with the Union of Pensioners that the harmonized amount would be paid from May 2022.”
Pensioners in Edo State had protested on March 17 2022 over the issue of a backlog of pensions dating from 2007 to 2021 while the government had assured that it was putting modalities in place to address the issues of pensions and gratuities.
