President Muhammadu Buhari has directed all members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) running for elective offices in the 2023 elections to submit their letters of resignation on or before Monday the 16th of May, 2022.

This was stated by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday after the FEC meeting in Abuja.

Recall that several ministers and aides to the president, including Attorney-General Abubakar Malami and the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, are currently seeking political offices.
President Buhari issued this directive despite a Court of Appeal ruling that allowed appointees to remain in office until 30 days before the general elections, which are scheduled to be held in February 2023.
This directive includes the Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo who was duly elected into office.
