N24 Billion: We Inherited Billions in Liability – Abia Deputy Governor

The Deputy Governor of Abia State Engineer Ikechukwu Emetu has stated that the present administration led by Governor Alex Chioma Otti inherited billions of debt from the past administration led by Dr Okezie Ikpeazu.

“I read that the past administration left an N24 billion in the State coffers but we inherited hundreds of billions of naira in debt against what was said to have been left and we are trying to resuscitate Abia after the mess.”

Speaking at the Media Training Institute organized by Vision Africa Radio on Monday, 12 June 2023, Engr. Emetu made it clear that while social media has its demerits and merits but has helped to keep leaders on their toes.

“I believe that if you have nothing to hide then you should not be scared of the social media. A few days ago, I read that I was named ‘King Herod’, it was funny seeing that but I imagined that the person who even wrote that might even be in an uncomfortable situation but that’s the power of social media. It has helped bring the people closer to their leaders. Social media helped in politics and also helped in giving Abians a sense to speak to us. Everybody knows what happened when we won the election, Abians were not just happy but the whole country was happy for Abia. And we have the trust of the people whom we will not disappoint.”

Thanking the organizers of the program, Bishop Sunday Onuoha, Engr. Emetu assured him that the government will work with the media in the State to promote the activities of the government.

Also at the event was the Director General of National Broadcasting Corporation, NBC, Mallam Balarabe Shehu Ilela, the President of Sharing InternaDr Chuck Pollak, Maddy Wilson, Jeff Wilson,  Dr. I. L. Ojiegbe, and a host of other speakers.
