Rivers Govt. Cancels Staff Recruitment After Eight Months

Rivers State Government has canceled the just concluded recruitment exercise conducted by the management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, over flagrant disobedience to directives.

In a statement by Prof. Prince Chinedu Mmom, the Commissioner for Education on Thursday, stated that all appointment letters issued and received are nullified.

It directed affected persons to return the letters to the office of the Registrar of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, and other employment-related properties such as ID Cards in their possession to the office of the Head of Service, Rivers State immediately.

The statement assured that a proper and credible recruitment exercise shall be conducted in due course.

The recruitment exercise which was advertised in July 2022 was completed in November 2022, the successful candidates were issued employment but no payment was made to them after eight months, they were disengaged and asked to return all appointment letters given to them.

While most have been advised to seek redress in court, others are praying that the Rivers State Government pay their accrued salaries.
