The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, has announced its readiness to embark on a 2-day warning strike from Tuesday and Wednesday, the 5th and 6th of September 2023 to show its readiness to embark on a nationwide strike later in the month while warning the Abia State governments against the imposition of its leaders on State councils of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and the National Union of Local Government Employees.

A communique by the National Executive Council of the NLC signed by President Comrade Joe Ajaero and Secretary Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, stated the unwillingness of the Federal government to engage and reach an agreement with organized labor over the hike in petrol products which has caused extreme hardship on the citizens.
It reiterated that it would embark on a nationwide strike after the warning strike and also demanded that the police who had invaded and illegally occupied the official headquarters of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW vacate the building and stated that the invasion had made it difficult for the union to discharge it’s duties across the nation.

NLC also revealed that there will be a mass protest in Imo State within the month over cloning and exploitation of the workers and warned that it will not tolerate the threat meted out by the new Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike with the demolition of residents properties and focus on providing more houses for residents.
Calling out Airpeace and it’s a violation of workers to join unions of their choice, it warned that it will shut down the aviation sector while reminding the sector of the freedom of association as inscribed in 1999 constitution.
