Despite the hunger and economic hardship, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris distributed 24 Toyota Jeeps to members of the Kebbi State House of Assembly on Tuesday at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
In a post shared on X formerly known as Twitter, Gov. Idris stated that the gift was in appreciation for the harmonious working relationship between the executive and the legislature.
“I am honored to fulfill my promise by distributing 24 first-class Toyota Jeeps to the dedicated members of the Kebbi State House of Assembly for their official engagements. Today, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, I presented these vehicles, expressing gratitude for the Assembly’s cooperation and understanding. The harmonious working relationship between the Executive Arm and the Assembly has been paramount.”
Gov. Idris who came under fire for ‘bribing’ the House members with the cars maintained that the gift would be a symbol of the government’s commitment to serving the people of Kebbi State diligently.
“In the spirit of collaboration, I joined the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Usman Muhammad Ankwe, in a test drive of the Jeep allocated to him. Let this be a symbol of our commitment to serving the people of Kebbi State diligently.”
The ‘gift’ has sparked outrage from people who complained about the deplorable condition of the State and asked if any of the campaign promises have been fulfilled by the Governor.

Olabode Oladiji wrote “Are they made in Nigeria? If not, you’ve just used Nigerians’ money to create jobs for Japanese and denied Nigerians the same.”
