The Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, announced that the House would send a delegation to Rwanda and Uganda to study women’s participation in governance.
“I also informed the European Union delegation that the House would send a delegation to understudy some African countries, like Uganda and Rwanda, which now have unique models for women’s participation in governance.”
He made this known on Thursday when he received the 19 EU countries’ ambassadors to Nigeria in his office in Abuja today, led by the Ambassador of EU to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ambassador Samuela Isopi.
Speaking, Honourable Abbas stated that he has mandated the Constitution Review Committee to complete its work within twenty-four as his target is to conclude all processes regarding the Constitution by the midterm of his tenure while using the remaining quarter to reach state Houses of Assemblies to ensure they comply and do the needful.
“In addition, the Constitution Review Committee has been given 24 months to complete all its work. We want to make sure that by the time we are at the mid-term of our mandate, all issues concerning constitution review are concluded at the level of the National Assembly. At that point, we will have clear one-and-a-half years to reach out to the states Houses of Assembly and ensure that they do the needful, for us to return it (amendment bill) back to Mr President for assent.”
Appreciating the EU delegation and expressing their uniqueness at the time of their visit, thanked the EU members for their support to the country.
“I thank the EU member countries for their support to Nigeria. I believe much more can be achieved with our partnership.”
