The Catholic Church in Abakaliki Diocese, Ebonyi State has debunked reports of a certain priest of one of its dioceses identified as Jude Obasi, a native of Afikpo North who got married to his lover while still functioning as a priest.
Debunking the report on Monday, 27th May 2024, the Catholic Church stated that no priest goes by the purported name or has any resemblance to any of its priests.
It further revealed that no indigenous Afikpo LGA priest goes by the name Jude Obasi and also has no diocese named St. Mary’s Catholic, Abakaliki in the diocese.

In the statement signed by the Diocesan Chancellor, Reverend Father Mathew Uzoma Opoke stated that no event of such was done in the diocese and cautioned people against pushing and believing the falsehood.
On Saturday, reports went viral of a priest who married his lover in the church.
However, a subsequent report revealed that the priest is a Kenyan and the event happened in October 2023.
