The University of Benin in Benin City, Edo State, has mandated students to sign an affidavit abstaining from participating in any unauthorized assembly within the campus premises or precincts.

The management of the school announced in a circular, made available by the Registrar A. A. Babalola on the 7th of August 2024, that the issues which led to the student protests have been addressed.
The students protested in July 2024 over the lack of electricity, and water supply and the dilapidation of the University school hostels.

The school management subsequently closed down the school in July and ordered students to immediately vacate the campus.
However, the school has announced a resumption date for students, which is on the 11th of August 2024, and warned that without the affidavit, the defaulting student’s result would not be released.
The affidavit is to be uploaded at the Students Kofa page while the hardcopy should be submitted to the Department Course Adviser. The process is to be completed within two weeks of resumption.
