The Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has ordered the arrest of Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), for “criminal defamation” of Gospel artist Mercy Chinwo.
This ruling was announced by Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna on Thursday, March 13, 2025, after VeryDarkMan failed to appear for a court summons on March 5, 2025.
The bench warrant was issued following allegations that VDM made defamatory statements on social media, accusing Chinwo of being involved in a contractual dispute and of diverting $345,000 linked to her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, known as Eezee Tee.

In support of her claims, Chinwo provided the court with documentary evidence, including emails and payment receipts, demonstrating that VDM’s allegations were entirely false and damaging to her public image and reputation.
Chinwo’s legal team, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi from the Abuja-based law firm Law Corridor, stated that the defendant’s actions contravene Sections 391 of the Penal Code and Section 24(1)(B) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015.
Additionally, Chinwo’s counsel has filed a lawsuit against VDM in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, seeking 1.1 billion Naira in damages. The lawyers have also requested an order compelling VDM to delete, retract, and issue a public apology for all allegedly false and defamatory statements made against Chinwo and her brand.
