The Obuoro Ibere community in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State has refuted claims of its involvement in the death of one of its own, Mr. Okezie Onyema Onyendu, a commercial motorcyclist who was attacked by unknown assailants in Amawom village.

On March 7, around 1 am, Onyendu was ambushed, with his attackers stealing his motorcycle, mobile phone, and daily earnings. He succumbed to his injuries on March 10 at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.
Chief Goddey Nduche, the Traditional Prime Minister of Obuoro, dismissed allegations made by Onyendu’s widow, Mrs. Ogechi Okezie, accusing the community of involvement in her husband’s death. Nduche emphasized that it is an abomination for the community to harm one of its own and described the allegations as unfounded.

He also noted that Onyendu had personal disputes with the community, including failing to conduct the traditional second burial rites for his late father and a land allocation disagreement with his half-brothers.
Both Nduche and the community’s President General, Chief Ariondu Enyinnaya, urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate the crime and address the growing criminal activities in Amawom village, which has become notorious for violent incidents.
The Abia State Police Command confirmed that an investigation into the case is ongoing.
