A man identified as Jeremiah Kosesochi Nwoke lost his life while attempting to steal the revered Agemo statue located at the Itoro Roundabout in Ijebu-Ode in Osun State.

The statue, a significant cultural symbol of the Ijebu people, represents the Orisa Agemo, a traditional deity worshiped by the community.


Eyewitnesses report that Nwoke, in an apparent attempt to steal the statue, encountered an unfortunate accident while trying to remove it from its pedestal. Despite his efforts, the act proved to be fatal.
The Agemo statue is a central part of Ijebu’s rich cultural heritage, and any attempt to steal or desecrate it is viewed with great disdain by the community. Local residents have expressed shock and dismay over the incident, noting the grave disrespect involved in trying to steal such a sacred object.
