Man Murders 68-Year-Old Mother Over Cassava Business Dispute
A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaju, from Amudo Village in Ekwulobia, has been arrested by police operatives from the Ekwulobia Divisional Police Station.
A 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaju, from Amudo Village in Ekwulobia, has been arrested by police operatives from the Ekwulobia Divisional Police Station.

The arrest occurred on April 11, 2025, at approximately 1:40 PM, following the murder of his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji, at their shared residence.
According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect also attempted to take his own life after the incident. Preliminary information indicates that the altercation began when Nnamdi accused his mother of dishonesty regarding the money earned from their cassava farming business.
Nnamdi is currently in custody and is under close supervision to prevent any further suicide attempts. He will be charged in court once the investigation is complete. Additionally, police recovered an axe at the crime scene.


In a related operation, police operatives from the Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Enugu-Ukwu conducted a raid on a known drug camp in Umuokpala Village within Orumba North LGA. Acting on credible information, they arrested 12 individuals involved in selling and consuming hard drugs. The suspects, all males aged between 20 and 29, were found in possession of a significant quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, along with other illicit substances.
The arrested individuals are: Ifeanyi Bernard, Emmanuel Ugwu, Thankgod Kelechi, Umeh Chidera, Aguiyi Onyeka, Onyeka Martin, Festus Ihezie, Chibundu Nicholas, Solomon Obiefule, Chibundu Daniel, Neke Shedrack, and Nwazufu Kingsley. They have been handed over to the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further action.
