Trump Launches Controversial Self-Deportation Program

Former President Donald Trump announced today that he has signed an executive order establishing what he calls the United States’ “first-ever self-deportation program,” aimed at undocumented immigrants residing in the country.

In a statement released via his official X handle, Trump stated: “Illegal aliens who stay in America face punishments, including sudden deportation, in a place and manner solely of our discretion.”

He further urged undocumented individuals to “book your free flight right now,” referring to government-facilitated transportation for those voluntarily leaving the U.S.

The executive order, details of which remain limited, signals a new phase in Trump’s long-standing hardline stance on immigration. Critics immediately raised concerns about the potential for human rights violations and due process issues, while supporters praised the move as a decisive action on border enforcement.

The program promises “free flights” for those who choose to self-deport, though the logistics and oversight mechanisms of the policy remain unclear. Immigration advocates and legal analysts are expected to challenge the order in court.

Trump’s move comes as immigration policy continues to dominate political debate ahead of the 2024 election cycle.
