Starmer and Trump Call for 30-Day Ceasefire in Ukraine During Call from Kyiv
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Saturday that he spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump from the Ukrainian capital, calling jointly on Russia to agree to a “full and unconditional 30-day ceasefire” in its war against Ukraine.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Saturday that he spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump from the Ukrainian capital, calling jointly on Russia to agree to a “full and unconditional 30-day ceasefire” in its war against Ukraine.

“Great to speak to Donald Trump from Kyiv, as we come together to call on Russia to agree to a full and unconditional 30-day ceasefire,” Starmer said in a public statement. “Space must be created for talks on a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.”

The appeal marks a rare show of unity between the British Labour leader and the Republican U.S. president, both urging a halt to hostilities to allow room for diplomatic negotiations.
While the Kremlin has yet to formally respond, the proposal is expected to trigger fresh debate over the prospects for a temporary truce and renewed peace talks.
Starmer’s presence in Kyiv, amid ongoing conflict, signals the UK’s continued solidarity with Ukraine, while Trump’s involvement highlights his administration’s interest in brokering an end to the war.
