In a swift enforcement action early Saturday, May 17, 2025, authorities sealed off DONALD Restaurant in Lekki Phase 1 after the establishment was linked to illegal waste dumping on Durosimi-Etti Street.

The incident was reported by the Chairman of the Lekki Estate Residents Association (LERA) and involved a white Ford van with Abuja plates (GWA 136E), caught discharging refuse illegally.
The suspects, who were apprehended on the scene by LERA’s Chief Security Officer, allegedly attempted to bribe the security team with ₦100,000, an offer that was promptly rejected. The culprits were taken into custody at the LERA Secretariat before being handed over to officials of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

LAWMA’s Managing Director, Mr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, dispatched a Monitoring and Compliance team to the location. The team sealed DONALD Restaurant for gross environmental violations under the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017.
According to Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources on Saturday, this case sheds light on a recurring trend among commercial operators in Lekki Phase 1, many of whom have failed to register with their designated Private Sector Participant (PSP) waste operators and are frequently implicated in after-hours dumping.
Meanwhile, LAWMA applauded LERA’s executive team and security operatives for their swift and principled response, reaffirming its commitment to strict environmental law enforcement. The suspects will face prosecution, and the agency continues to urge all businesses and residents to comply with proper waste disposal practices.
“A clean and livable city is everyone’s responsibility,” LAWMA stated.
