Lamido Backs Coalition to Unseat Tinubu in 2027, Slams APC Government as Incompetent and Divisive
Former Governor of Jigawa State and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has declared his readiness to support any political coalition aimed at removing President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in the 2027 general elections.
Former Governor of Jigawa State and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has declared his readiness to support any political coalition aimed at removing President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in the 2027 general elections.
In a no-holds-barred interview on ARISE News on Saturday, Lamido accused the Tinubu-led administration of incompetence, divisiveness, and betraying the ideals of democracy. He criticized the government for allegedly using state institutions to suppress the opposition and for deepening ethnic and regional divides in the country.
“I am part of any arrangement, no matter the nomenclature, to remove the current government of incompetency, insecurity, and division. The APC government is not for Nigerians, it is for the political party,” Lamido stated.
He warned that Nigeria is facing an unprecedented political crisis, accusing President Tinubu of turning governance into a tool for personal ambition rather than national service. According to Lamido, Tinubu’s style is autocratic, self-serving, and loyal only to his own interests.

“Tinubu is not about Yoruba. Tinubu is about him and him alone, his own interest. He behaves like the emperor he is,” Lamido said. “He will use anyone from the South-South, Southeast, or North as long as they serve his personal agenda.”
Lamido also took aim at Tinubu’s celebrated image as a pro-democracy icon, disputing his role during the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election. He claimed Tinubu supported then military ruler General Ibrahim Babangida during the controversial period.
“He was part of those supporting Babangida’s annulment of June 12. His own mother organized women to back Babangida. It’s history, and I mean no harm but Tinubu was not the June 12 hero he claims to be,” Lamido asserted.
While calling for a united front to oust the APC in 2027, Lamido stressed that any coalition must be driven by national interest, not personal ambition or vendetta, warning against repeating the errors of the 2014 opposition merger that brought the APC to power.
“The coalition I’m advocating must not be like the 2014 arrangement, a coalition of anger, revenge, and nothing but ambition. It must be about unity, security, the economy, and restoring Nigeria’s honour.”
Lamido’s comments come amid growing discontent with the Tinubu administration over economic hardship, rising insecurity, and political tensions. His endorsement of a broad-based political alliance is expected to spark fresh debates about Nigeria’s political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
