A young man identified as Joshua has been arrested by the Edo State Police Command in connection with the disappearance and death of 22-year-old Osaro Festus, whose body was discovered buried in a shallow grave near his residence nearly two months after she was last seen.

According to police reports, Osaro met Joshua through social media and visited him at his residence on April 20, 2025.
On that day, she left her parents’ house accompanied by a female friend. Before proceeding to Joshua’s house, Osaro reportedly sent her friend a photo of him, a precautionary measure in case something went wrong.
Unfortunately, Osaro never returned home. After weeks of frantic searching by family members and mounting public concern, police traced Joshua to his home.

Under questioning, he initially claimed that Osaro had slipped and died during an argument. He later led authorities to the shallow grave where her body was found.
“This is a tragic reminder of the dangers of meeting strangers from social media platforms,” a spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command said.
“We urge the public, especially young people, to take extreme caution and always inform trusted individuals of their whereabouts.”
Joshua remains in custody and is expected to face charges related to homicide and obstruction of justice as investigations continue.
