The Abia State Government has reported that the unfortunate incident involving the shooting of a young man named Chukwudi by Operation Crush on Sunday was related to cult activity.

During an Executive Briefing on Monday at Government House on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council Meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, stated that the operatives of Operation Crush were responding to a distress call in Umuahia when the incident occurred.
To address misleading narratives circulating online, Prince Kanu clarified that one suspect was arrested, but another tragically died during the pursuit.

“Contrary to the misleading narratives online, the deceased was a cultist and not an innocent bystander. A victim of a machete attack is currently receiving treatment, and investigations are ongoing,” he said.
It is reported that the deceased, who was from Ugwueke in Bende Local Government Area, had a disagreement with another individual who subsequently reported him to Operation Crush.
When he spotted the operatives, he attempted to flee and was shot in the process. He was taken to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
