Tinubu Announces Buhari’s Death, Sends VP Shettima to UK to Accompany Body
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally announced the death of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away earlier today in London at approximately 4:30 p.m. following a prolonged illness.

In a statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu extended his condolences to the family of the late leader and revealed that he has spoken personally with Buhari’s widow, Mrs. Aishat Buhari.
As part of arrangements to bring the former president’s body back to Nigeria, President Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel immediately to the United Kingdom.
In honor of the late statesman, President Tinubu has also ordered that all national flags be flown at half-staff.
Muhammadu Buhari, a central figure in Nigeria’s political history, served twice as President after winning elections in 2015 and 2019. He had previously led the country as military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985.
Further details regarding national mourning and funeral arrangements are expected in the coming days.
