Three suspected armed kidnappers were neutralised by security forces during a gunfight in Otulu, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, following the abduction of two individuals in the state last week.

According to military sources, the incident began on Friday, August 15, when Mr. Igiri Samuel, a driver with Seth Integrated Farms, and Miss Mercy Iteshi were kidnapped near the Oshimili North Local Government Headquarters in Akwu-Akwu Igbo.

Acting on intelligence received from the management of Seth Integrated Farms on Sunday, August 17, troops of the Nigerian Army’s 63 Brigade, Asaba, in collaboration with the Delta State Government House Tracker team, launched a tracking operation that led them from Atuma-Iga to Otulu.

Upon confronting the suspects, the troops engaged them in a gun battle that resulted in the deaths of three kidnappers. During the operation, troops recovered ₦2.4 million in cash, an AK-47 rifle, 52 live rounds of ammunition, mobile phones, and other valuables.

Miss Iteshi and a military personnel sustained injuries during the exchange and are currently receiving medical attention at a nearby hospital. Their conditions are reportedly stable.
