NAFDAC Warns Nigerians Against Counterfeit Cowbell “Our Milk” in Circulation

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians about the widespread circulation of counterfeit Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachets across the country.

According to the alert, the counterfeit product falsely claims to be manufactured by Promasidor Nigeria Ltd. the authorised producer of Cowbell products.

However, the company officially discontinued production of Cowbell “Our Milk” in September 2023, replacing it with a reformulated product now branded as Cowbell “Our Creamy Goodness.”

The fake milk sachets mimic the packaging of the discontinued product and illegally bear Promasidor’s branding, including a NAFDAC Registration Number and design elements that may deceive unsuspecting consumers.

NAFDAC warns that consuming counterfeit dairy products can lead to severe health consequences. These include the ingestion of toxic substances, unapproved additives, and diluted or contaminated ingredients, potentially causing foodborne illnesses, allergic reactions, organ damage, or even death. Vulnerable populations such as infants, children, pregnant women, and the elderly are particularly at risk.

NAFDAC urged all healthcare professionals, retailers, and consumers to be vigilant and avoid purchasing or consuming this fake product.
