NAFDAC Warns Against Falsified Oxytocin Injections with Fake Registration Number
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public warning regarding falsified and unregistered Oxytocin injections in Nigeria.

According to NAFDAC, this product, which is marketed as Gold Vision Oxytocin Injection 10IU, was discovered during a routine Risk-Based Sampling (RBS) survey conducted by NAFDAC officers and displayed a counterfeit NAFDAC Registration Number: A4-9566.
NAFDAC states that this product falsely claims to be manufactured by Anhui Hongye Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., located in Bengbu, Anhui Province, China, and is marketed by Gold Vision Medicals in Independence Layout, Enugu.
Investigations have confirmed that this product is not listed in the NAFDAC database, making it unapproved and potentially dangerous.
It also revealed three additional counterfeit products: A-tocin Injection, Extocin Injection, and Claxitodin Injection, all allegedly from the same manufacturer and bearing the same fake registration number.
It stressed the life-threatening risks associated with using unregistered or falsified Oxytocin products, especially in maternal health.
These counterfeit injections may have incorrect dosages, lack active ingredients, or contain harmful substances. Improper administration of Oxytocin can lead to failed uterine contractions, postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), and, in severe cases, maternal or neonatal death. The consequences may also necessitate emergency medical interventions such as surgery or blood transfusions.
It urges healthcare professionals and the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected sale or use of substandard or counterfeit medical products. Reports can be made to the nearest NAFDAC office, via the agency’s hotline 0800-162-3322, or through email at sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
