The Delta State Police Command has uncovered a disturbing trend involving dispatch riders who double as drug couriers under the pretence of operating courier services.

Intelligence reports led to a series of arrests, shedding light on a growing network that uses hotels and delivery services to traffic hard drugs and cannabis across the state.

According to the Spokesperson of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, on Tuesday, several young women between the ages of 20 and 25 were arrested after being found lodged in a hotel for several months.

Investigations revealed that the hotel served as a base for drug distribution, where the suspects coordinated deliveries and sold narcotics directly to customers.

“These young women used the hotel as a cover, staying there for months while conducting illegal drug activities,” the police spokesperson said. “They worked hand-in-hand with dispatch riders who transported the drugs from one location to another.”

Among those arrested was Kingsley Eze, a dispatch rider from Ohaozara in Ebonyi State. Eze was caught in possession of 15,000 cannabis wraps and confessed to purchasing and distributing the drugs to customers.

Another suspect, identified only as Ramadan, was also arrested. He admitted to collecting cannabis from 21-year-old Queen Chukwu from Enugu State and supplying it to buyers on her behalf.

Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged accordingly.
