Just-In: Transmission Tower Collapses, Disrupts Power Supply

Published

A transmission tower belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) collapsed in the Rigasa Community of Kaduna State on Thursday, September 18, 2025, following a combination of severe weather and acts of vandalism.

According to a statement released by TCN, Tower No. 7 along the Kaduna Town Line I and II came down during a heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds.

Upon inspection, TCN engineers discovered that vandals had removed several critical components from the tower, weakening its structural integrity and making it susceptible to collapse.

The incident has disrupted bulk power transmission to parts of Kaduna South, affecting several load centres supplied by Kaduna Electric.

In a bid to mitigate the outage, TCN directed the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) to temporarily link the 33kV Mogadishu feeder to the 33kV Abakwa feeder. This measure allows customers in the Mogadishu area to continue receiving electricity despite the disruption.

Meanwhile, areas such as Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, Unguwan Muazu, and Kaduna North have not been affected and continue to receive normal power supply.

TCN engineers are currently on-site dismantling the collapsed tower and preparing to erect a replacement. The company assured residents that all efforts are being made to restore full power supply as quickly as possible.
