Minister of Science and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji, Resigns Amid Certificate Forgery Allegations
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following allegations that have recently come to light.
Nnaji, who was appointed to the federal cabinet in August 2023, tendered his resignation in a letter addressed to the President on Tuesday. In the letter, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and claimed that he had become the target of political blackmail.
“I have been a victim of blackmail and sustained attacks by political opponents,” Nnaji said, while thanking President Tinubu for the trust placed in him during his time in office.
President Tinubu, in response, acknowledged the resignation and expressed appreciation for Nnaji’s service to the nation. He also extended his best wishes for Nnaji’s future endeavours.
The development was confirmed in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Nnaji’s resignation comes amid allegations of forging his degree certificate from the University of Nigeria Nsukka.
