Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central has expressed her alarm after her passport was seized by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, allegedly under the directive of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In a live video shared from the airport, she stated that she had arrived to travel following the celebration of her second year in office and to take a week’s vacation to rest. However, immigration officials withheld her passport on the orders of the Senate President.

She accused Akpabio of instructing the Comptroller General to confiscate her passport, saying, “Senate President Godswill Akpabio instructed the Comptroller General to seize my passport at the airport, preventing me from travelling.”

In the video, NIS operatives were seen urging her to understand their situation, but Senator Natasha insisted that the charges against her had been withdrawn by President Bola Tinubu, who deemed them politically motivated.

She emphasised that she has always complied with the law and has never missed a court appearance, warning the operatives that she would not tolerate any further embarrassment.

Senator Natasha noted that this was not the first time her passport had been seized; it had previously taken intervention from a higher authority to have it returned.

Eventually, the NIS operatives released her passport, and she revealed that it was only returned because she had drawn public attention to her situation.
