‘Prohibit Ransom Negotiations, Fund Police Transparently’ – Kalu Tells FG
The Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, CFR, has urged the Federal Government to adopt bold legislative measures to stem Nigeria’s worsening security crisis.

Speaking today, Kalu called for a clear statute prohibiting government officials from negotiating ransoms with criminal groups, insisting that such engagements only empower kidnappers and endanger citizens.
He also pressed for predictable, transparent, and statutory funding for the Nigeria Police Force, arguing that inadequate and irregular financing has crippled operational effectiveness.
Pushing for deeper structural reforms, the Deputy Speaker reiterated the need to decentralise policing through state and community police systems, describing them as essential for faster, locally informed security responses.
Kalu stressed that these proposals are not mere reactions but institutional reforms designed to build a safer and more resilient nation.
