NAFDAC Destroys ₦55bn Worth of Fake, Expired Products in Ibadan
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed unregistered, fake, banned, adulterated, and expired regulated products valued at about ₦55 billion in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The destruction exercise, which took place during a general disposal operation by the Agency, involved large quantities of unsafe products removed from circulation to protect public health.
According to NAFDAC, the items included damaged and expired products voluntarily submitted by more than 70 compliant companies, non-governmental organisations, and trade unions.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the exercise was part of the Agency’s sustained efforts to ensure that dangerous and unwholesome products do not find their way back into the market.

She stressed that the destruction of such products demonstrates NAFDAC’s zero-tolerance stance against substandard and falsified medicines, foods, and other regulated items, noting that their circulation poses serious risks to lives and public safety.
Prof. Adeyeye called on religious and community leaders, health practitioners, and the general public to support the Agency’s efforts by educating families and communities on the dangers of patronising quacks and unauthorised dealers of medicines and food products.
She emphasised that safeguarding public health requires collective responsibility, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and to report suspicious products and activities to NAFDAC.
