Amaiyi Day Kicks Off with a Health Walk
Amaiyi Day has started with a call to the community to take their health seriously by exercising regularly and drinking plenty of water, especially during this dry season.

The day, which commenced with excited residents of Amaiyi-Okpo, was met with great enthusiasm as young and old came out en masse to participate in activities that promote awareness and encourage healthy living.
Speaking with the Director of Sports of Amaiyi Day, Mr Emmanuel Kalu Ubi, he stated that the health walk covered from Ugwu Okoronkwo to Amangwu, then Amaeri and Obichie, with a brief stop for exercises at Afia Okpo roundabout before concluding at Nkporo and Mgbo-Oba.

He mentioned that since there was no age limit for the health walk, people of all ages joined in, primarily to raise awareness about the activities of Amaiyi Okpo. He assured the enthusiastic participants that the event would be held regularly and promised that next year’s celebration would be even more vibrant with an exercise kit given to participants.
“Our main aim is to draw attention to Amaiyi. To show that the Amaiyi people are lively and active, and to highlight the Amaiyi Day coming up on the 5th of January 2026. We also have a football competition scheduled for the 4th of January at 3 pm. This is to ensure that all Umu Amaiyi unite in the pursuit of community development.”
Urging all Umu Amaiyi to attend Amaiyi Day, Mr Ubi emphasised that the event aims to promote the community’s progress and informed that top government officials are expected to grace the occasion.
He assured that it is for the growth of Amaiyi Okpo that the Ambassadors deemed it necessary to organise the event, thereby repositioning the community.
