Amaiyi Ambassadors Lead Community Development
Amaiyi Ambassadors, the umbrella body championing development and humanitarian services in Amaiyi Okpo Ihechiowa, Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State, on Monday held a major fundraising event aimed at accelerating infrastructural and social development in the community.
Speaking at the event, Mr John Kalu Ufere, popularly known as MC White, described the day as historic, noting that it was set aside by every son and daughter of Amaiyi Okpo to celebrate the community and collectively invest in its future. He explained that Amaiyi Ambassadors is the new identity of the former Amaiyi Okpo Development Union, unified under one structure with a clear mandate of community development and the welfare of its people.
According to him, the celebration has become a long-standing tradition in the community, adding that irrespective of social status, no other event is fixed in Amaiyi Okpo on the day of the celebration.
“Everything is put on hold for this day because it is dedicated solely to the progress and unity of our community,” he said.
Mr Ufere stated that the fundraising is expected to translate into increased development, pointing to the ongoing road construction as a major achievement of collective effort. He revealed that the road is being constructed using cement technology, emphasising that the choice reflects a shared decision by the community to ensure durability and long-term benefits.
“This does not mean we lack people who can build roads for us, but we agreed that everyone should come together and be part of this great development taking place in Amaiyi Okpo,” he added.
On the response of the people, Mr Ufere expressed satisfaction with the level of participation and support from community members. He disclosed that the activities spanned three days, beginning with a health walk, followed by the election of new executives who will serve a four-year tenure.
He further revealed that the celebration featured a football competition, which was officially kicked off by the President General, Chief Monday Kalu Okorie, before culminating in the grand Amaiyi Day celebration.
“The turnout has been encouraging, and the contributions from sons and daughters of the community have been instrumental to the success of this fundraising. We are glad to see our people fully involved in building Amaiyi Okpo,” he said.
