Military Confirms Coup Plot, Concludes Probe of 16 Officers
The Defence Headquarters has announced the conclusion of investigations into sixteen officers arrested over acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations, revealing that some of them are facing allegations related to plotting to overthrow the government.

In a press release issued on Sunday and signed by Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) said the investigation report has been completed and forwarded to the appropriate superior authority in line with existing military regulations.
The officers were initially arrested following a Defence Headquarters statement released in October 2025.
According to the AFN, the investigation was carried out through established military procedures and involved a detailed review of the circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel.
The findings reportedly identified several officers as having cases to answer, including allegations that run contrary to the ethics, values, and professional standards expected of members of the armed forces.
The military authorities stated that officers with prima facie cases will be formally arraigned before the appropriate military judicial panels to face trial under the Armed Forces Act and other relevant service regulations. The process, the AFN noted, is intended to ensure accountability while respecting fairness and due process.
The Armed Forces emphasised that the actions taken are strictly disciplinary and form part of internal mechanisms aimed at preserving discipline, order, and operational effectiveness within the ranks.
