Tragic! Trader Allegedly Killed by Apprentice in Onitsha
Tragedy struck in Onitsha, Anambra State, following the alleged killing of a trader identified simply as Iyke by his 18-year-old apprentice, popularly referred to as a “nwa boi.”

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday in the Fegge area of the commercial city. According to accounts circulating on social media, the suspect, identified as Chiemerie and said to be from Ebonyi State, allegedly attacked his employer with a mortar pestle, leading to the trader’s death.
A Facebook user, Franklin Akunebiokwu, shared a moving tribute to the deceased. “Rest in peace. May the Almighty God console your family and heal your sister, who is in the hospital receiving treatment,” he wrote.
In another viral video post, OBC Afunwa claimed that the victim was a businessman at Ogbo Ogwu market in Onitsha. He also cautioned employers to exercise care in selecting apprentices, alleging that some young workers may be affiliated with criminal gangs.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to release an official statement confirming the details of the incident or the suspect’s status.
