Breaking! Residents of World Bank Housing Estate Umuahia Protest Excessive Billing by EEDC
Residents of World Bank Housing Estate in Umuahia, Abia State, on Tuesday staged a protest at the Government House, Umuahia, Abia State decrying what they described as prolonged excessive and intimidating electricity billing by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).

The protesters alleged that despite receiving monthly bills ranging between ₦67,000 and ₦75,000, their community continues to experience neglect of critical infrastructure.
According to the residents, transformers, electric poles, and other essential equipment serving the area have not been repaired or replaced by EEDC when faulty.
They claimed that the responsibility for maintaining and fixing damaged transformers and poles has consistently fallen on members of the estate.

“The only thing EEDC does is to collect money,” one of the protesters said, expressing frustration over what they termed a lack of accountability and service delivery.
Chanting solidarity songs, the residents called on the Governor of Abia State Dr Alex Otti to urgently intervene and compel the distribution company to address their concerns.
“This is a peaceful demonstration not even a protest to alert the Governor to what we are going through. We love him and we will continue to support him but we need to let him know our predicament. The residents resolved that we will give the number one month to address our concerns,” a resident said.
