The Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District and the Former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing persistent internal crises and growing divisions within the party.

Tambuwal announced the decision on Thursday, stating that after deep reflection and consultations, he submitted a written notice of resignation to his ward chairman.

The former governor stated that the PDP had played a significant role in his political career and expressed gratitude for the opportunities he received while in the party, including serving as Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives and later as Governor of Sokoto State during his second term in office.

According to him, however, ongoing leadership disagreements and internal conflicts within the party have weakened its unity and direction.

“The persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and growing divisions within the PDP have made it increasingly difficult to continue my membership of the party,” Tambuwal said, adding that the situation necessitated his decision to leave.

Following his resignation, the former governor announced that he had officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) along with his associates and supporters.

Tambuwal stated that his move was motivated by his conviction that Nigeria requires a stronger political platform founded on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development.
