Fani-Kayode Opposes Obi Presidency, Urges Atiku to Step Aside
A former Minister of Aviation and the Ambassador-designate to Germany, Femi Fani-Kayode, has said he does not support the possibility of Peter Obi becoming President of Nigeria, declaring “God forbid” during a recent interview monitored by the Guardian.

Fani-Kayode made the remark while speaking on Nigeria Today News Network, though he did not provide specific reasons for his stance against the former presidential candidate.
He advised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to reconsider his presidential ambitions, suggesting it was time for him to step aside and allow a new generation of leaders to emerge.
He said, “I have respect for our former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, but I also believe that it’s time for him to simply say ‘let others continue the work’.”
Commenting on the state of opposition politics in the country, Fani-Kayode argued that there is effectively no opposition in Nigeria, claiming it has collapsed due to internal divisions and lack of direction.
Declaring that he doesn’t see the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a formidable opposition, he described it as a group driven by desperation for power rather than a clear vision for national development.
“I don’t see ADC as an opposition party: I see them as an association of people who are desperate for power. Individuals who are discredited, individuals who have no hope in hell of moving this nation forward. The opposition has collapsed in Nigeria. There is no opposition because they don’t even know how to be in opposition. How can they keep the Government on its toes when they are busy bickering amongst themselves, fighting amongst themselves and they are fast asleep in bed snoring.”
