At a grand civic reception held in honour of Alex Otti, the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency declared emphatically that there is “no vacancy” in the governorship seat of Abia State.

Speaking at the event, Archbishop Raphael Opoko assured the Governor of the constituency’s total support and urged him not to be distracted by criticism from opposition parties.

“We are stating categorically that there is no vacancy in the governorship seat in Abia State. We thank you for your courage and encourage you to continue the work you are doing. Do not allow negative criticism to distract you.”

Archbishop Opoko described the civic reception as a celebration of purposeful leadership and a reflection of the people’s collective aspirations and commitment to responsible governance. He commended Governor Otti for demonstrating vision, integrity, and transparency within a short period in office.

He highlighted several achievements of the administration, including the renewal of critical infrastructure, investment in human capital development, and the restoration of dignity to Abians both at home and abroad. He also praised developments at Amachara Medical Centre, the upgrade of primary healthcare facilities, and the recruitment of over 5,000 teachers, describing them as impactful and commendable.

According to him, road infrastructure across the state has significantly improved, with many roads now motorable. He noted that Aba is undergoing a visible transformation, while projects like the Omenuko Bridge stand as clear evidence of progress. He added that Abia is no longer merely “whispering progress but making bold statements.”

The Archbishop also appealed to the Governor to visit Ulonna Farm to boost agricultural productivity in the area further.
In his contribution, Kingsley Anosike, Chairman of the Planning Committee, stated that the event was organised by the people, regardless of their political affiliation, to express gratitude to the Governor. He described Umuahia as one of the fastest-transforming state capitals in the country, noting visible improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, and human capital development.

Similarly, the Mayor of Umuahia South, Hon. Engr. Chinedu Enweruzo, speaking on behalf of other representatives, expressed confidence that Governor Otti already has overwhelming support for the 2027 election.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Barrister Monday Ubani, also praised the Governor for restoring hope and delivering tangible development. He cited projects such as the reconstruction of the Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road as proof of the administration’s commitment to governance without excuses, adding that members of various political parties including APC, PDP, and ADC would support the Governor.

The speakers collectively described Governor Otti as one of the most impactful governors in Nigeria, emphasising that ongoing projects including plans for a 250-room five-star hotel in Umuahia will further transform the state capital.

In his remarks, Governor Otti reiterated that governance must be rooted in service rather than self-interest. He assured the people of his administration’s commitment to delivering quality projects across all sectors, adding that every initiated project would be completed.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Governor’s wife, Mrs Priscilla Otti; the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa; Bishop Nkechi Nwosu; members of the National Assembly and State Assembly; and other prominent stakeholders.

The occasion also witnessed the defection of several individuals including Hon. Udo Ibeji, Martins Ekueku, Chief Chucky Balogu, Hon. Dennis Okorie, and Hon. Izuchukwu Princewill Nwosu to the Labour Party, further strengthening the party’s presence in the constituency.
