Otti Approves Feasibility Study for Proposed Azumini Sea Port Project
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved an immediate feasibility study for the proposed Azumini–Obeaku Sea Port and Inland Waterways Corridor project.
The approval followed a meeting with a delegation from China Harbour Engineering Company Limited, led by Mr Nicolas Liu.
During the engagement, both parties discussed the scope and potential impact of the ambitious project, which is expected to enhance economic activities and boost regional connectivity.
Although the company initially proposed a six to seven-month timeline for the feasibility study, Governor Otti directed that the process be expedited to accelerate implementation. He emphasised the need for urgency while maintaining thorough technical assessments.
In parallel with the study, the state government will commence efforts to secure the necessary approvals from key federal bodies, including the Presidency, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Ministry of Blue Economy.
Governor Otti also urged the project team to conduct an on-site inspection of the proposed location to evaluate its suitability, particularly considering its proximity to the high seas and the technical demands such as dredging.
He noted that the Azumini Sea Port project holds significant promise for transforming Abia State’s economy and contributing to Nigeria’s broader maritime development goals.
The governor expressed optimism that with adequate funding, strong partnerships, and sustained commitment, the project could become a reality.
He further commended the delegation from China Harbour Engineering Company Limited for their presentation and expressed confidence in achieving positive outcomes from the feasibility study.
