Orji Kalu, Atuma, Erondu Emerge Winners in APC Senatorial Primaries in Abia
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election for Abia North Senatorial District, defeating his challenger, Philip Nto, by a wide margin across the five local government areas in the district.

Results from the primary election showed overwhelming support for Kalu in Ohafia, Arochukwu, Bende, Isikwuato, and Umunneochi LGAs, with the former Abia State governor reportedly dominating in nearly all the wards.
In Ohafia LGA, wards including Etiti, Agbo, Ameke, Agboji, Ohafor, and Okamu recorded landslide victories for Kalu, while Nto reportedly failed to secure votes in several polling areas.
A similar outcome was recorded in Arochukwu LGA, where Kalu secured decisive victories in wards such as Ututu, Ikwun Ihechiowa, Ohafor Abam, Arochukwu Ward 1, and Arochukwu Ward 2.
The strong showing extended to Bende, Isikwuato, and Umunneochi LGAs, consolidating Kalu’s dominance across Abia North Senatorial District.
Meanwhile, in the APC Abia Central Senatorial District primary election, Emeka Atuma emerged the winner with a total of 36,605 votes cast.
In Abia South Senatorial District, lawmaker Erondu Uchenna Erondu emerged winner of the APC primary election after recording a commanding lead across the six local government areas in the district.
The final results were announced at the APC Abia South Senatorial District Primary Election Collation Centre in Aba by the Collation Officer, Emmanuel Kalu Agbaeze.
According to the results, Erondu defeated his closest rivals, Nyerere Chinenye Anyim, Paul Ikonne, and Blessing Nwagba across all six LGAs.
In Aba North LGA, Erondu polled 1,840 votes, ahead of Anyim’s 1,071 votes, Ikonne’s 1,504 votes, and Nwagba’s 1,447 votes.
In Aba South LGA, Erondu secured 2,629 votes, defeating Anyim who scored 1,085 votes, while Ikonne and Nwagba polled 1,219 and 1,495 votes respectively.
At Obingwa LGA, Erondu maintained a strong lead with 3,612 votes, while Anyim secured 504 votes, Ikonne got 41 votes, and Nwagba recorded 27 votes.
In Ukwa East LGA, Erondu polled 1,836 votes, ahead of Anyim’s 646 votes, Ikonne’s 329 votes, and Nwagba’s 437 votes.
Results from Ukwa West LGA showed Erondu securing 3,675 votes, while Anyim scored 2,119 votes, Ikonne got 716 votes, and Nwagba polled 836 votes.
In Ugwunagbo LGA, Erondu further consolidated his lead with 3,022 votes, while Anyim secured 285 votes, Ikonne polled 290 votes, and Nwagba got 214 votes.
At the end of the exercise, Erondu emerged as the winner with a total of 16,640 votes. Anyim scored 5,206 votes, Ikonne polled 4,099 votes, while Nwagba secured 4,456 votes.
Following the announcement, Prof. Agbaeze officially declared Erondu the winner of the APC Abia South Senatorial District primary election.
Erondu is now expected to face incumbent senator Enyinnaya Abaribe in the forthcoming general election.
