Amaechi Declares Readiness to Defeat Atiku for ADC Presidential Ticket
Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed confidence that he can defeat former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to secure the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Amaechi, while reacting to comments credited to Atiku about his strong record in party primaries on Trust TV’s Daily Politics on Monday, said he hopes the 2027 ADC primary will mark the first time the former vice president loses a presidential primary contest.
“I listen when they say former Vice President Atiku said he has never failed the primaries before. I hope this will be the first time he fails the primaries,” Amaechi said.
He added that Atiku’s history of winning party primaries had not translated into success at the general elections.
“That is not the issue, the issue is that every time he has passed the primaries, he has not won the election,” he stated.
Amaechi also challenged Atiku’s position on zoning, noting that the former vice president had openly stated that he does not believe in zoning arrangements.
“Former Vice President Atiku said he doesn’t believe in zoning, so let’s go to the primary,” Amaechi said.
The former minister further argued that Atiku would struggle to win the 2027 presidential election if he were to emerge as the ADC candidate.
“Atiku will not win the 2027 election if he becomes ADC’s candidate. He is not electable,” Amaechi declared.
