A new breakthrough in the treatment of enlarged prostate has been introduced in Nigeria as Eleos Specialist Hospital commences the use of Thulium Fiber Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (ThuFLEP), an advanced medical procedure designed to completely remove enlarged prostate without surgical cuts.

The hospital disclosed that the innovative laser technology offers a safer and less invasive alternative for patients suffering from prostate enlargement, regardless of the size of the prostate.

According to the hospital, the procedure involves the use of a specially designed laser recently introduced into the country to remove enlarged prostate with little or no blood loss while eliminating the need for open surgery. Patients undergoing the procedure are also said to return home either the same day or a day after treatment.

Speaking on the development, the Head of Operations of Eleos Specialist Hospital, Mr. Joshua Amayanvbo, revealed that the hospital has already successfully carried out the procedure on more than 30 patients, with all of them discharged either on the same day or shortly after the treatment.

The hospital further explained that the new laser technology comes with several advantages over previous laser systems, including reduced complications and preservation of erectile function after treatment. The technology can also be applied in the treatment of kidney stones and other medical conditions.

Medical experts have described the introduction of ThuFLEP in Nigeria as a significant advancement in urological care, especially for elderly men battling prostate enlargement, a condition that affects urination and quality of life.

Eleos Specialist Hospital, which is domiciled in both Abuja and Umuahia, encouraged Nigerians experiencing symptoms associated with enlarged prostate to take advantage of the modern treatment option now available in the country.
