The Provost of Ezzy College of Nursing Sciences, Enugu State, Mrs Ifeyinwa Okwudo, has reportedly been expelled from office following months of public controversy surrounding allegations of student victimisation and misconduct.

The development was disclosed by education advocate and CEO of EduCare Alex Onyia, who has led several campaigns against alleged abuses within educational institutions across Nigeria.

Mrs Okwudo came under intense public scrutiny after the indefinite suspension of a student, Joy Ezeugwu, who reportedly exposed the poor and dilapidated condition of the Uwani Health Centre in Enugu.

The disciplinary action sparked widespread criticism from rights advocates and members of the public, who viewed the suspension as retaliation against a whistleblower.

The former provost also faced allegations of physically assaulting a nine-month pregnant woman at the hospital.

Reacting to the development, Onyia stated that individuals who abuse their positions to oppress students would eventually be held accountable, stressing the importance of exposing misconduct in educational institutions.

“To those of you oppressing our students: it’s only a matter of time before we shine our light on you.”
