Breaking! Archbishop of Benin City Augustine Obiora Akubeze Passes On
The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria and the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin City have announced the passing of the Archbishop of Benin City, Most Rev. Augustine Obiora Akubeze.
In a statement on Thursday, Very Reverend Father Michael Oyanoafoh, the Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Benin City, stated that the Archbishop died on 9th July 2026.
Most Rev. Akubeze was ordained as a Catholic priest on 3rd October 1987, appointed Bishop of Uromi on 14th December 2005, and consecrated on 25th February 2006.
He was subsequently appointed the Archbishop of Benin City on 18th March 2001 and installed on 28th April 2001.
It was also mentioned that the funeral arrangements will be communicated later.
