“Nigerians Are Happy with Us” – Bwala Says, Cites Trump’s Letter

Presidential spokesperson Daniel Bwala has defended the administration of President Bola Tinubu, insisting that Nigerians are satisfied with the progress being made, particularly in the area of security and governance.

Speaking during an interview on Politics Today with Channels Television anchor Seun Okinbaloye, Bwala said the government’s efforts were yielding positive results.

“Nigerians are extremely happy with the progress we are making,” he said while responding to questions on the country’s security situation.

During the interview, Okinbaloye revisited comments Bwala made in November 2022, when he questioned Tinubu’s eligibility to contest the presidential election over alleged drug-related issues and concerns about his character.

The anchor asked why Bwala, now serving as a presidential spokesperson, had changed his position.

Bwala, however, dismissed the repeated questioning, accusing sections of the media of focusing disproportionately on his past remarks.

“This issue again? When will you get tired of asking me the same question?” he said.

When the presenter insisted that the question remained unanswered, Bwala replied that there appeared to be “a media agenda” against him.

“For two years, you’ve been asking me the same questions. There are times you have to get tired,” he said, adding that “clickbait has become a fulcrum of modern-age journalism.”

On the issue of repentant terrorists, Bwala defended the government’s rehabilitation policy, explaining that many individuals associated with Boko Haram were forcibly recruited as children.

According to him, children abducted from villages and conscripted into insurgent camps should not automatically be treated as criminals if they later escape and surrender to government authorities.

He said the Nigerian government would not shoot such individuals when they returned claiming to have repented, arguing that many had been recruited against their will.

Bwala also pointed to a letter sent by U.S. President Donald Trump to President Bola Tinubu, describing it as further validation of the administration’s achievements.

“Trump’s letter is further proof of the progress we are making,” the presidential spokesperson said while discussing the correspondence during the interview.
