2027: Don’t Vote for Politicians Who Violate Peace Accord – Obi
The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, have called on politicians to uphold peace and ensure credible elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the National Peace Accord in Abuja on Tuesday, Obi urged Nigerians to reject politicians who violate the provisions of the Peace Accord, stressing that no election should cost any Nigerian his or her life.
“Let us not forget those who died in ensuring that the election in Osun State was held. However, in a democracy, nobody needs to die because of an election,” Obi said.
He added: “Nigerians should not vote for any politician who violates the Peace Accord ahead of the 2027 elections.”
Speaking, INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process and ensuring that voters’ choices are accurately reflected in election results.
“As an electoral umpire, INEC’s commitment to Nigeria is unwavering. Our responsibility is to ensure that the ballot is protected and that the will of the voters is reflected in the final results,” Amupitan said.
The INEC chairman disclosed that the commission had spent the past eight months addressing identified challenges within the electoral process, noting that the improvements were evident in recent elections conducted in Osun, Anambra, Ekiti and the Federal Capital Territory Area Councils.
Amupitan also urged political candidates and parties to focus on presenting credible programmes and solutions to Nigerians rather than engaging in personal attacks and insults.
“Nigerians do not want insults; they want solutions. They deserve to hear clear, concrete, and measurable manifestoes,” he said.
The INEC Chairman further reported that the preparation for the election is ongoing and urged that the campaign should be about ideas and not war.
“I am pleased to report that our preparations for the 2027 elections are progressing with absolute precision. We are scaling our operational logistics to manage a massive nationwide ad hoc workforce of 1.4 million personnel across over 176,000 Polling Units
“Let the 2027 election campaign be a market place of ideas, not a theatre of war.”
