Ibrahim Gusau Resigns as NFF President, Calls on Board Members to Follow Suit
The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has announced his resignation from office.
Gusau announced in a press conference at the NFF Glass House in Abuja on Thursday, saying he had informed his colleagues of his decision and advised them on the way forward.
According to him, the decision followed concerns and clamour from various stakeholders about the state and future of football in Nigeria.
“I decided to resign my position as President of the NFF,” Gusau said.
He added that he had communicated his decision to his colleagues and would continue to contribute to the development of football based on his experience in the game.
“I just want to tell you that I decided to resign from my position as the NFF President. I informed my board members and advised them that anybody who wants to follow me to also resign, but as I am talking to you, I cannot tell you who and who or how many board members have resigned,” he said.
“By the grace of God, I hope I can continue to give my contributions because of the experience and relationship we have within African football; we will never allow it to go in vain. Whenever we need to give our contributions, we will come here and give our contributions for the progress of the Nigerian people.”
Gusau also urged stakeholders to look inward and consider the next steps for Nigerian football, stressing the importance of collective responsibility and continued contributions to the sport.
Gusau was elected to lead the Nigerian football governing body at the 78th Elective Congress of the Nigeria Football Federation in September 2022.
