Benjamin Kalu Receives Daily Times ‘Lawmaker of the Year’ Award
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has received the Times Heroes Lawmaker of the Year Award for the House of Representatives at the Daily Times Nigeria @100 Centenary Celebration held in Abuja.
Kalu, who shared the recognition alongside distinguished Nigerians and institutions honoured for their contributions to national development, described the award as both an honour and a renewed call to public service.
In a statement, the Deputy Speaker commended the management and staff of Daily Times for its 100 years of service to Nigeria, describing the newspaper as a witness, chronicler and participant in the country’s development.
He said the newspaper had contributed to national discourse by upholding the values of journalism, editorial excellence and professional integrity throughout its century-long history.

Kalu stressed the importance of the media to democracy and nation-building, saying the 10th House of Representatives remained committed to strengthening the media industry.
“The media remains a critical pillar of democracy and an indispensable partner in nation-building,” Kalu said.
According to him, the House would continue to promote press freedom while reviewing laws and practices that constrain effective journalism.
He expressed appreciation to Daily Times Nigeria for the recognition, noting that he would use the award as motivation to intensify his legislative efforts.
“I receive it not only as an honour, but also as a call to continue serving with renewed strength, and advancing legislation that delivers meaningful impact for the people and our nation, Nigeria,” he said.
