2027: NDC Targets N1,000 Grassroots Donations, Vows to Fight for Every Vote – Dickson

Senator Seriake Dickson, National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), says the party is exploring innovative ways of raising funds through small contributions from ordinary Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dickson, on Wednesday during Arise Television’s interview, said the NDC would develop a system that would enable Nigerians to contribute as little as N1,000 or N2,000 to support the party, arguing that democracy should not be financed primarily by wealthy individuals and billionaires.

Speaking on the opposition’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, Dickson said the NDC was consulting with its presidential candidate, running mate and other party leaders on its campaign structure.

He said the party was also finalising the composition of its Presidential Campaign Council, assuring that the names would be released and inaugurated soon.

According to him, the NDC intends to take its case directly to Nigerians and contest every vote in the election.

Dickson also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and other relevant authorities to ensure free, fair and credible elections.

He cited Ghana as an example of a country where democratic transitions through elections are possible, insisting that Nigeria’s democracy must be strengthened rather than reduced to a predetermined outcome.

On the proposed opposition coalition and calls for a single presidential candidate, Dickson said he was engaging with different political actors and urged them to approach the discussions in good faith.

He, however, clarified his political affiliation, saying he is neither a member of the Kwankwasiyya movement nor the Obidient movement but a committed member of the NDC.

“I’m not a member of Kwankwasiyya, and I’m not a member of Obidient. I’m NDC,” Dickson said.

He maintained that while the NDC would welcome the support of other parties and candidates, its primary objective remains winning the 2027 presidential election.

Dickson further criticised the use of government resources, security agencies and financial power to influence elections, saying such practices must end.

He said the NDC’s broader mission was to empower ordinary Nigerians and break the cycle of political oppression by powerful interests.
