APC Governors Draw Line Against Wike’s ‘Rainbow’ Coalition

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have resolved not to support or endorse any political alliance capable of undermining President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, weakening the party or working against APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governors resolved after a closed-door meeting at the Imo State Governors’ Lodge in Abuja.

Speaking after the meeting, Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, said the governors had unanimously agreed that none of their members would participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the President’s re-election, weakening the APC or adversely affecting its candidates at any level.

Uzodimma said the forum would not entertain any arrangement capable of creating confusion, divided loyalty or competing interests within the party.

The resolution is being viewed as a direct response to political alliances associated with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, popularly described as a “rainbow coalition.”

Some APC governors have reportedly expressed concern over moves to support politicians who lost APC primaries but are now contesting under the platform of another party, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Meanwhile, in a viral video, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said the rainbow coalition would increase votes for President Bola Tinubu and warned governors who lack the capacity to deliver votes for the President against sabotaging the effort.

“I heard some governors say the Rainbow coalition is to reduce the votes of our President (Tinubu), people who don’t have capacity. Where were you when we delivered Rivers State for Tinubu in 2023 without a Rainbow coalition? This Rainbow coalition will increase Tinubu’s votes. If you don’t know how to do it, come and learn from us; there is nothing in learning.”
